Intense body camera footage reveals a remarkable moment when a good Samaritan steps in to rescue a critically hurt police officer in Atlanta. The officer’s own gun started firing due to the heat as flames engulfed his patrol car.
On October 20 at around 10:22 p.m., Officer Malik Safi was en route to assist another officer when his patrol vehicle crashed into a house and caught fire, as detailed in a dramatic video released by authorities over the weekend.
According to police, brothers Ryan Beck and Keshun Robinson, along with some nearby residents, rushed to help Safi escape just as flames intensified and shots were fired from his firearm inside the car, forcing them to duck for cover.
“We really couldn’t just stand there,” Beck shared. “It was heartbreaking to see anyone in a situation like that. We just instinctively jumped in.”
Robinson mentioned, “We wanted to reassure him that he wasn’t alone.” Moments later, one of the bystanders utilized the injured officer’s radio to call for immediate assistance.
A woman’s voice can be heard on the radio saying, “The police are here. Officer SAFI. He’s on North Avenue. Please hurry. He’s hurt, and his leg is broken.”
Paramedics arrived swiftly and transported Officer Safi to the hospital, where he received treatment for injuries that were thankfully not life-threatening.
Their mother, Keziah Reed, expressed immense pride in her sons’ heroic actions. “I am so proud of both of them,” she remarked. “They truly lived by the values they were taught—helping others and showing compassion.”
