New York Jets Set to Announce Justin Fields as Starting Quarterback
The New York Jets are reportedly planning to name Justin Fields as their starting quarterback. Tyrod Taylor is expected to take the helm for the Week 12 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, according to various sources. Jets head coach Aaron Glenn hinted at potential changes in positions last week, emphasizing that he would be looking at all roles closely.
“We’re evaluating everything,” Glenn told the media. He added, “I’m looking at myself, the players, the overall team dynamics, and everything else. I won’t place all my focus on just one situation.” This suggests he’s committed to ensuring the team is set up for success.
Fields has had a tough rookie season with the Jets, and as playoff hopes dwindle, Glenn seems ready to make a shift. In a recent game, the Jets lost 27-14 to the New England Patriots, with Fields completing 15 out of 26 passes for 116 yards, including one touchdown. He was sacked twice during the game.
Throughout this season, Fields has struggled, throwing for under 100 yards in four games. Currently, the Jets rank 25th in scoring and 29th in total yards gained.
Taylor, a veteran quarterback, has navigated a backup role for much of his career. Drafted in 2011 from Virginia Tech, he’s played for several teams including the Ravens, Bills, and Giants, before joining the Jets in 2024. While he’s faced his share of misfortune, Taylor has demonstrated an ability to step in as a starter when needed.
This season, he has played in three games for New York, posting 379 passing yards along with three touchdowns and three interceptions.
