Texas homeowner in their golden years confronts burglar who entered through the back door with a hunting rifle. The outcome is not good for the intruder.

Early Sunday morning, police in Grand Prairie, Texas, received a call around 2 a.m. about a suspicious individual in the 400 block of Santa Margarita Avenue. The area is roughly 30 minutes away from Dallas, according to local reports.

A homeowner alerted authorities, informing them that an intruder had entered his house through the back door. It appears the man, who is elderly, was armed with a hunting rifle and encountered the suspect while he was searching through the home.

Police stated that the homeowner shot the burglar, fearing for his safety. The intruder succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The investigation is currently treating the shooting as an act of self-defense, and authorities do not intend to press charges against the homeowner. The Dallas County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased once family has been notified.
