Billy Bob Thornton Reflects on Blood Vials and Past Relationship with Angelina Jolie

Billy Bob Thornton recently reminisced about his past with Angelina Jolie, particularly the iconic moment 25 years ago when they wore vials of each other’s blood as jewelry. Now 70, Thornton spoke about how this unusual fashion statement generated a lot of buzz during an interview.

“People still talk about blood vials,” the interviewer noted.

“That didn’t exist,” Thornton responded, indicating the extent to which the story had transformed over the years.

He elaborated that they each had a small locket containing a drop of blood, describing it as “a romantic little idea and that was it.” However, he emphasized how tabloids exaggerated the situation. “But by the time it’s over, we’re vampires. We live in dungeons and drink each other’s blood,” he said jokingly.

Thornton reflected on the intense media scrutiny surrounding their relationship, saying, “It was pretty weird. When we met, I was the more famous one. And then, somehow, the public and media turned their focus on us as a couple.” This heightened interest made it difficult for them to go anywhere privately.

He acknowledged that their shared experiences led to some memorable soundbites, although often unwittingly. Throughout it all, he cherishes the time spent with Jolie. “We had a great time together,” he shared, calling their relationship one of the best times in his life. Despite their split, he affirmed that they remain close friends and “it was a really civilized breakup.” He added that they separated due to their differing lifestyles.
