Seth Meyers Responds to Trump’s Criticism

Late-night host Seth Meyers addressed President Donald Trump’s recent criticism during his show on Monday, stating, “That doesn’t make me special.”

After reading Trump’s post, which critiqued his show, Meyers humorously remarked, “You don’t often hear my name on TV before midnight.” He noted that being targeted by the president doesn’t make him unique; he’s just among others like Christopher Wray and Rand Paul.

Meyers clarified, saying he has no issue with Trump expressing his dissatisfaction with the show, acknowledging, “That’s his right, and some nights he may have a point.”

Trump had called for Meyers to be fired in a post on Truth Social, which was shared by Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr. The president accused Meyers of having “Trump Derangement Syndrome,” stating, “NBC’s Seth Meyers is suffering from an incurable Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS). Last night he went into an uncontrollable rage, likely due to the fact that his ‘show’ is a ratings disaster.”

On his show, Meyers poked fun at Trump’s description of his supposed “rage,” saying, “What do you mean by passive voice?” He continued, playfully asking whether viewers saw him display that kind of anger.

During a virtual press conference, Meyers shared his thoughts on being a frequent target of the president’s social media activity. “Encouraging is a word I don’t like to use,” he mentioned. He noted that some people saw it as proof of doing something right, which he found somewhat gratifying, yet added that he thinks it’s probably better for Trump to focus on other issues.

Trump had previously criticized Meyers, labeling him “the least talented person” in early November, questioning why NBC would invest in someone with “no talent, no ratings, 100% anti-Trump.”
