Tragic Mistaken Identity Shooting in the Bronx

A father from the Bronx, Norman Moore, aged 64, allegedly drove his 24-year-old son, Devonte Moore, and a teenage friend to a laundromat with the intent to target a rival. However, they ended up fatally shooting the wrong person, prosecutors revealed on Tuesday.

According to prosecutors, on October 7, Norman Moore took his son and the unnamed teen to Laundry Bee in Olinville to settle some issues. It was there that the 16-year-old reportedly exited the vehicle and fired at a parked Volkswagen Passat, hitting 26-year-old Fareed Aday.

Aday had recently purchased the car and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

All three individuals involved in the murder are currently being held without bail. Norman Moore faces murder charges and will have a court date on December 15, the same day his son is also expected to appear, facing similar charges.

Devonte Moore has already been indicted and is due back in court on December 18.

According to police, the Moores were not previously acquainted with Aday. The Moores allegedly fired shots at assailants related to a prior shooting incident involving Devonte on White Plains Road back on August 23, which resulted in injuries to both men involved.

Fareed Aday’s father, Kareem Aday, shared during a recent interview that his son worked as an Amazon delivery driver and aspired to join the U.S. Marine Corps. He noted that his son had unknowingly purchased the vehicle from Carlton McKenzie, 26, who was involved in an ongoing dispute with Devonte Moore.

Kareem expressed his frustration, mentioning, “I blame him. If [McKenzie] had informed my son about any issues, he would have never bought the car. Never, never, never.”

Mckenzie is currently facing attempted murder charges from the August 23 incident and is held on a $100,000 bail with a court appearance scheduled for December 8.

Devonte Moore has been charged with attempted murder related to the shooting incident and is also being held without bail.

He is set to be arraigned for his role in Aday’s death on December 15.
