NBA results: LeBron James nets 11 points in first game of the season

LeBron James Makes Season Debut with Lakers

LeBron James finally returned to the court for his much-anticipated season debut against the Utah Jazz. The Los Angeles Lakers, it seems, were on fire that night.

Starting his NBA-record 23rd season after battling sciatica for a few weeks, James played for 30 minutes, scoring 11 points in the Lakers’ 140-129 win. He also tallied 12 assists and grabbed 3 rebounds, showing he still has a lot to give.

“The pace tested me, but I was happy with the way I ran with the guys,” he shared. “As the game progressed, I felt my wind improving. It was our first game in nearly seven months, so everything that unfolded was pretty much what I expected.”

At 40 years old, James had missed the start of the training camp, which resulted in him sitting out 14 games. Strangely enough, he has never missed a season opener since he took up organized basketball. His return to Lakers practice happened just the day before the game.

Despite stepping into a team that had a respectable 10-4 record heading into the game, he aimed to find his footing quickly.

“I can fit in with anyone,” he remarked. “I don’t even understand why that was a question. Just watching the first 14 games, I was mentally preparing and figuring out how I could contribute to the team’s success. I still draw a lot of attention when driving or holding the ball.”

Luka Doncic emerged as the star of the night, leading the Lakers with 37 points on 11-for-22 shooting, along with 10 assists and 5 rebounds. Austin Reeves followed with 26 points, while Deandre Ayton added 20.

Unfortunately for the Jazz, they fell to 5-9 this season. Keyontae George shined, scoring 34 points and adding eight assists and four rebounds. Lauri Markkanen also put in a strong performance with 31 points and five rebounds.

By playing 23 seasons, James has made history in the NBA. It’s worth noting that Vince Carter previously held the record for 22 seasons. His final season ended abruptly during the 2019-20 campaign due to the pandemic. Other notable players like Robert Parrish, Kevin Willis, and Chris Paul reached the 21-season mark.
