Murder Charges Filed in Death of Actor Jonathan Joss

Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, the neighbor of Parks and Recreation actor Jonathan Joss, has been formally indicted on a murder charge. This announcement came from a grand jury in Bexar County, Texas.

The indictment stems from a violent incident that occurred on June 1, when Joss, whose full name was Jonathan Joss Gonzalez, was fatally shot outside his home after a confrontation with Ceja Alvarez. Joss was 59 years old at the time of his death.

Although Ceja Alvarez was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder, he was released on $200,000 bail the day following Joss’s death. Reports indicate that authorities found Ceja Alvarez lying near the road when they arrived at the scene. He allegedly confessed to the shooting.

In a troubling twist, Tristan Kern de Gonzalez, Joss’s husband, claimed that the actor was targeted in a homophobic hate crime. He recounted a moment after the shooting where Ceja Alvarez laughed and made derogatory remarks, which he found particularly distressing.

Initially, San Antonio police stated there was no evidence linking Joss’s murder to any biases regarding sexual orientation, but this position was later retracted by Police Chief William McManus. He admitted the early comments were made prematurely and expressed regret, especially to the LGBTQ+ community, acknowledging the need for a thorough investigation.

Joss was known for voicing John Redcorn on King of the Hill and had joined the cast in 1996, continuing until the show’s end in 2009. He was even set to reprise his role in a revival that had just launched on Hulu shortly after his tragic passing.

Following Joss’s death, co-creators of King of the Hill shared their condolences on social media, honoring the contribution he made to the character and the show. Additionally, his colleagues from Parks and Recreation expressed their sorrow. Nick Offerman, who played Ron Swanson, mentioned how heartbreaking the news was for the cast, reflecting on Joss’s kind nature.

Chris Pratt, another co-star, also took to social media, expressing his grief and encouraging others to appreciate their loved ones in light of the sorrowful event.
