Moreno Discusses Election Impact of Economic Policies
Senator Bernie Moreno from Ohio expressed in a chat with Breitbart News Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlowe that the election of Islamic socialist Zoran Mamdani as mayor of New York City highlights how detrimental policies have diminished the American Dream.
“I never thought someone like Mamdani could become mayor of our largest city,” Moreno remarked. “You might think it’s impossible, and yes, it certainly seems that way. Yet here we are. The unfortunate truth is that we’ve taken away young people’s chances to feel they belong to the American Dream.”
He pointed out that young Americans are finding it increasingly difficult to achieve foundational milestones like owning a home or a car.
“Owning a home feels out of reach. So does having a car or even getting married and starting a family. Many say, ‘I can’t even afford to feed my dog, let alone have kids,'” he explained, noting that these economic pressures can push youth toward socialist solutions that promise free handouts.
Moreno likened current political tactics to a middle school campaign: “‘Free recess! Free lunch! Snacks all day! No homework!’ That’s what these campaigns are about. But the messages about affordability are mixed,” he added. He criticized Democrats for the affordability crisis caused by high inflation and continuous spending during Biden’s presidency.
“For now, there’s a chance to send us a message on this issue, and Mr. Mamdani is certainly doing that, offering what he claims is the solution,” he noted, urging Republicans to tackle affordability issues without delay.
The senator described the challenges faced by the working class over the past four years as monumental. “This gut punch, particularly during the Biden administration, can’t be overstated. They’ve severely harmed our working class,” he said. “They’ve welcomed in millions of foreign workers, exacerbating the housing, insurance, and food crises—all while handling the fallout from COVID-19, which has deeply affected young people’s mental health and pushed car prices up.”
“We need to be clear with the American people that this disaster didn’t just happen overnight. Yet, it’s crucial for us to act urgently now,” he emphasized.
