Kamala Harris Addresses Loyalty to Biden Amid Campaign Challenges
During an interview on Tuesday, former Vice President Kamala Harris responded to inquiries about her loyalty to President Joe Biden as they approach the 2024 campaign. She expressed a desire to step back from that topic for “my own sanity and well-being.”
Tim Miller from Bulwark highlighted that, while many circumstances were out of her control, the dynamic between her and Biden was something they could influence. “We felt trapped by this loyalty,” he stated, sharing his thoughts on the matter with Harris.
Harris candidly replied, “I have to be very clear here for my own well-being. That’s not where my focus is right now. There’s so much happening, and there’s work we can do now for the future.”
Looking back, she reflected on the decisions made during a campaign leading up to her book, “107 Days.” Miller noted the importance of recognizing past events to forge a successful path forward.
Harris acknowledged that different choices could have altered the campaign’s outcome. “Should he and various other people have made different decisions? Yes, there’s no question about that. Could that have affected the outcome? Probably,” she shared.
When asked why she didn’t emphasize her relationship with Biden in her book, she pointed out that a third of voters supported Biden, a third voted for them, and the remaining didn’t participate at all. “It’s crucial to consider why that two-thirds didn’t vote for what’s happening now,” she emphasized.
In her book, Harris reflected on the decision-making process, suggesting it was perhaps reckless to leave such significant choices to personal ambition and ego. The stakes were simply too high for that.
Earlier in the discussion, Miller expressed understanding regarding how challenging these situations can be, yet suggested that if new candidates were sought after, she might not have made the cut.
