AOC Cancels Meeting Between President Trump and Mayor-elect Mamdani
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) has indicated that New York Mayor-elect Zoran Mamdani is open to meeting with anyone before his scheduled discussion with President Trump.
When asked by reporters about expectations for these talks, Ocasio-Cortez responded, “Let’s wait and see.” She noted that the incoming mayor is preparing for his inauguration and is willing to engage with various stakeholders.
“He’s indicated that he’s willing to sit down with anyone and everyone,” she added. It’s, I think, an interesting approach right now as he starts this new chapter.
President Trump announced plans to meet with Mamdani this week, specifically on Friday, November 21st, at the White House. In a post on Truth Social, Trump referred to the mayor-elect as “Communist New York City Mayor Zoran ‘Kwame’ Mamdani,” confirming that details about the meeting would follow.
Ocasio-Cortez was also questioned about potential policy matters for Mamdani to bring up during his discussions with Trump. She expressed confidence in Mamdani’s leadership, saying, “We trusted him with this role, and I believe he’ll act in the best interest of New York City.”
“We’ll see what happens,” she concluded, leaving some thoughts hanging about the forthcoming meeting.
This will be the first meeting between Trump and Mamdani since the latter secured his position as mayor following a recent election. Mamdani, a state representative from Queens, is set to assume office in January.
