Assistant principal in Virginia accused of threatening ICE agents and police

A vice principal from a Virginia high school and his brother are facing accusations of threatening violence against local police and ICE agents.

As per court records, an off-duty officer in Norfolk eavesdropped on John and Mark Bennett while they were at a restaurant in Virginia Beach. They reportedly expressed concerns about “the kidnapping of individuals by ICE agents.”

This incident occurred on November 15, and the officer overheard the discussion while enjoying a meal at a Pho restaurant.

The criminal complaint indicates that Mark Bennett had traveled to Las Vegas to meet with others who share similar views and mentioned coming back with “ideas and plans for execution.”

The two brothers have been charged with conspiracy to commit malicious wounding.

Prosecutors reported that Mark Bennett had recently acquired an assault rifle capable of penetrating bulletproof vests, and he even mentioned wanting to “go hunting,” which raised eyebrows.

It was noted that he bought the rifle to take advantage of the explosive rounds designed to penetrate vests. John Bennett supported these notions and hinted at an interest in joining his brother in Las Vegas.

Virginia Beach Public Schools confirmed John has been with the district since 2009 but declined to comment on the situation. However, they revealed that he is currently on leave from Kempsville High School.

Mark Bennett traveled to Las Vegas for a Formula 1 race to meet his sons, according to his lawyer. He was taken into custody at Norfolk International Airport.

The local police chief described the charges as “incredibly disturbing.” Chief Paul W. Neudigate expressed gratitude that the information was reported, allowing law enforcement to act and ensure the safety of the community.

Both brothers have been released on bail, but they are prohibited from contacting each other, possessing firearms, and must remain at home with GPS monitoring.
