Trump Reacts to Greene’s Resignation

On Friday, President Donald Trump expressed approval of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s decision to resign from Congress in January. He described it as a positive move and hinted that he doesn’t plan to mend their strained relationship.

In a phone conversation with ABC’s senior political correspondent, Abby Scott, Trump remarked, “I think it’s great news for this country. It’s a great thing.” When asked if Greene had informed him beforehand, he replied, “No, it doesn’t matter, but I think it’s great. I think she should be happy.” Regarding their differences, he stated, “It’s just between me and her, not between her and me,” suggesting he wishes her well but doesn’t intend to communicate with her now.

Greene, who entered Congress in 2020 and gained attention for her fervent support of Trump’s “America First” agenda, announced her resignation on X. She expressed disillusionment with both major political parties and stated that “nothing is getting better” for regular Americans. In her statement, she criticized what she sees as bipartisan failures in Washington, including issues like rising debt, job outsourcing, and insufficient legislative progress.

Last week, Trump revealed that he had withdrawn his support for Greene on Truth Social, stating, “All ‘weird’ Marjorie is doing is complaining, complaining, complaining!” He referenced polls indicating she would struggle to succeed without his backing, claiming she had a “12% approval rating” and noting he wouldn’t be returning her calls as she was “telling a lot of people that he was upset.”

With Greene’s departure from the House, Trump focused on other matters during his phone call and his meeting with New York Mayor-elect Zoran Mamdani in the Oval Office on Friday. He described the meeting as “excellent,” highlighting the “good chemistry” they shared. “He couldn’t be more kind,” Trump noted about Mamdani.

Mamdani expressed optimism, saying, “I really think we have a chance to do a great job,” and pledged cooperation. Trump also remarked on Mamdani’s focus on New York City, prompting a question about whether he views himself as a leader within the Democratic Party.
