Miami Hurricanes Player Nearly Collides with Staff Member During Game
A staff member for the Miami Hurricanes came very close to being hit by a player during the game against the Virginia Tech Hokies on Saturday. This incident took place in the second quarter of Miami’s 34-17 win.
In the middle of the field, quarterback Carson Beck connected with wide receiver Malachi Toney, who then took control of the ball. Toney dashed across the midfield line and into Hokies territory. It was a pretty exciting moment, though things escalated quickly.
As Toney was pushed out of bounds, he lost his balance and nearly collided with a woman on the sideline. She was right next to punter Dylan Joyce, and as Toney stumbled, he ended up impacting her. The force sent her backward, and she narrowly avoided hitting her head on the railing behind her. Fortunately, she quickly got back up, and both players and Miami staff rushed over to check on her, making sure she was alright.
Reactions from college football fans on social media followed, as you might expect.
The Hurricanes improved their season record to 9-2 and now stand at 5-2 within the ACC, which is a key achievement as they aim to qualify for the College Football Playoff.
In terms of performance, Beck had an impressive game, completing 27 of 32 passes for a total of 320 yards, including four touchdowns. Toney was particularly noteworthy, leading the fourth quarter with 12 catches for 146 yards and a notable 20-yard touchdown catch from Beck.
Miami came into this game ranked 11th in the latest College Football Playoff standings. With the team currently fifth in the ACC, they’ll face a critical match against Pittsburgh to conclude their season.
