Surge in Assaults Against ICE Officers This Year

Assaults on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers have skyrocketed by an alarming 1,150% this year compared to last year. Since the onset of President Trump’s administration, nearly 250 attacks have been documented.

This troubling increase reflects a more hostile environment for immigration officials, with incidents involving stalking, death threats, and direct physical attacks. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) claims this rise in violence is being fueled by certain politicians who oppose Trump’s strict immigration policies.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated, “After months of Democratic politicians comparing ICE to the Nazis and encouraging illegal aliens to resist arrest, our brave ICE law enforcement agents have faced 238 assaults.”

McLaughlin went on to emphasize, “Our law enforcement officers are being petrol bombed, shot at, and assaulted. It’s crucial that politicians tone down their rhetoric to prevent further violence against officers.”

To put this into perspective, between January 21 and November 21 of last year, only 19 assault incidents against ICE agents were reported while a staggering 238 attacks have been recorded during the same timeframe this year.

DHS has reported various forms of violence against agents, including being punched, spat at, kicked, bitten, and even rammed by vehicles. Some agents have also been shot at and targeted with Molotov cocktails.

Sadly, this surge in violence has resulted in severe consequences. In September, an armed individual opened fire at an ICE facility in Dallas, killing one immigrant and injuring two others. This individual had “ANTI ICE” written on his bullets.

Before that, the same facility faced a bomb threat when a man claimed he was carrying explosives. Additionally, on July 4, a group of activists launched fireworks at an ICE processing center, leading to an officer being shot in the neck while responding to the situation.
