Trump Claims He Rescued Turkeys From Being Sent to Infamous Overseas Jail in Amusing Incident

Trump Pardons Turkeys with a Twist

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump made a lighthearted remark about saving two turkeys, Gobble and Waddle, from being deported to a well-known detention center in El Salvador. During a traditional turkey pardon held in the Rose Garden, he humorously implied these turkeys had narrowly escaped a grim fate.

Since resuming office, Trump has joked about the turkeys being rescued from a notorious facility where illegal immigrants, particularly those with criminal records, are sent. “Some of my enthusiastic staff members had already completed the paperwork to ship Gobble,” he quipped, noting that the bird was destined for the detention center. He further added, “And even those birds don’t want to be there, you know what I mean? It was difficult.” He expressed thanks to the president of El Salvador for their efforts in handling such matters efficiently.

The turkeys themselves came from a farm owned by Travis and Amanda Pittman in Wayne County, North Carolina. Thanks to Trump’s intervention, they are set to enjoy their days at North Carolina State University.

In the broader context, Trump’s administration has taken a hard stance on illegal immigration, particularly regarding individuals from El Salvador who have committed serious crimes like murder and drug trafficking. The recent case of Kilmer Abrego Garcia, an MS-13 gang member accused of violent acts, illustrates this. Garcia was initially deported, a decision supported by the administration due to his illegal status and criminal history. However, Democratic lawmakers, including Senator Chris Van Hollen from Maryland, have publicly protested against his deportation.

Now back in the U.S., Garcia is facing charges in Philadelphia related to human smuggling. The government is currently pursuing his removal to Liberia. During a meeting with Trump, El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele assured reporters that he had no plans to facilitate Garcia’s entry into the United States.
