Gorka Defends Iran War at Press Conference
During a press conference on Wednesday, Sebastian Gorka, who served as a deputy assistant to the U.S. president, addressed criticisms regarding the Iran war using bold and colorful language.
Gorka referred to previous wars initiated by Republican administrations in the Middle East as “forever wars.” When pressed by the Daily Caller News Foundation on how the Iran war differs from these conflicts, he dismissed the question, labeling it a “bad joke.” He argued that opposing the Iranian regime was necessary, stating that limiting the conflict to “limited air operations” was crucial.
He emphasized, “They have been planning to kill the president,” referring to Donald Trump and other high-profile figures. Gorka claimed that after serious incidents, like the Beirut bombing and threats against American service members, one would have to question their own courage to suggest any form of inaction.
Interestingly, he also described the Trump administration as “not a nation-building administration,” which adds a layer of complexity to his arguments.
When asked about potential refugee crises stemming from the war, Gorka expressed no concerns, stating, “There is no fear of a large-scale refugee problem.”
He further ridiculed comparisons between the war in Iran and previous wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, describing such comparisons as “absurd” and a “sick joke.” Gorka compared the costs and human toll of those conflicts to the ongoing operations against Iran, which he indicated are far less extensive in scope.
Currently, estimates suggest the financial burden of the Iran war stands at around $25 billion, according to War Department official Jules W. Hearst III during a House Armed Services Committee hearing.
