Ex-NFL quarterback discusses the issues faced by Lamar Jackson, Trevor Lawrence, and Jalen Hurts.

Quarterbacks Under the Microscope

Shaun King, host of “Fearless” on Blaze TV and former quarterback, has analyzed three notable quarterbacks this season: Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens, Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Unfortunately, the outlook for fans could be disappointing. Jackson has struggled to spark a lackluster offense and seems to have a history of injuries. Lawrence’s completion percentage is shockingly poor, especially given his hefty $275 million contract. As for Hurts, he tends to underutilize his star receivers, often seeming cautious in the pocket.

King offers insight into what might be going wrong for each player.

Lamar Jackson

Despite the chatter suggesting Jackson is in a downward spiral, King posits that he might just be dealing with hesitancy stemming from previous injuries.

Currently, he “appears reluctant to tap into his athletic abilities” as he may be trying to avoid reinjury, according to King. However, considering Jackson’s outstanding achievements—two MVPs, two seasons rushing over 1,000 yards, and a remarkable all-around game—there’s still reason to have faith in him.

King suggests that if the issues persist into next season, then it will be worth revisiting this discussion.

Trevor Lawrence

King is more critical when it comes to Lawrence.

He expresses that Lawrence, who thrived at Clemson, was never held accountable for his mistakes. “I didn’t face any criticism there. I got a big contract too quickly,” King contends, suggesting that Lawrence’s potential coach-killing tendencies could be a problem.

Lawrence, he says, is an eager but anxious player. If he can’t maintain composure during chaotic situations, King doubts his ability to succeed in that role.

King believes Lawrence relied too heavily on natural talent, with a lack of guidance. “He wasn’t ever challenged about his fundamental flaws. He never felt the risk of being benched,” he points out. With a coach willing to challenge him, there’s a chance Lawrence could reach his full potential.

Jalen Hurts

King thinks Hurts may actually be the NFL’s most underrated player.

Unlike greats such as Peyton Manning and Tom Brady, who thrived under the same coach for years, Hurts has had to adapt to new coordinators nearly every offseason.

“He’s had different systems these past four years. Each year, it’s been about learning something new instead of improving on what he already knows,” King explains.

Despite the inconsistency, Hurts remains one of the league’s most successful and recognizable quarterbacks.

“He doesn’t get the respect he deserves,” King asserts. “Is he fully developed? Not at all. But if Philadelphia can provide him with some stability, I’d be excited to see how he could grow.”
