Tragic Incident at Queensland School

A Year 12 student has sadly passed away at a school in Queensland.

Emergency services were called to the Brisbane location on the evening of November 18 after the student from Wellington Point State High School was discovered unresponsive.

Reports indicate the boy fell from the roof of one of the school’s buildings, and a classmate reportedly witnessed the fall.

The police confirmed that the death was unexpected and stated there were no signs of foul play.

The school sent out a message to parents about the “tragic incident,” urging them to guide their children against posting about it on social media.

“As you know, tragic events have had a profound impact on our school community,” read the letter from the school’s association.

It continued, “It is with great sadness that we have to share the news that one of our Year 12 students has passed away.”

The school extended its condolences to the family and friends of the student and requested parents to help monitor their children’s social media activities in the coming days.

“While many posts may come from a care setting, online comments and speculation can be very traumatic for those grieving,” the letter stated.

“We ask that children do not share or comment on this incident on social media.”

“The most respectful way we can support our students’ families and friends is by maintaining their privacy.”

Support services are available and will remain in place as needed. Although the school hasn’t posted an official statement on Facebook, they shared photos of Year 12 students during their graduation ceremony.

The post celebrated the students’ achievements: “Congratulations to all the students! Well done! We are so proud of you and your accomplishments.”

Queensland Police informed news.com.au that a report will be prepared for the coroner regarding the sudden death, which is not being treated as suspicious.

The Queensland Department of Education remarked that Wellington Point State High School is ensuring students, staff, and families have access to various support services.

“The department extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends, students, and staff,” they stated.

“Instructors and youth support workers are on site, with additional community support available. We encourage students and parents to contact the school anytime if they feel they need assistance.”
