Chicago Bears Upset Philadelphia Eagles
In Philadelphia, Kyle Monangai rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown, while D’Andre Swift added 125 yards and another score, leading the Chicago Bears to a 24-15 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, marking their fifth consecutive win.
Currently sitting at 9-3, the Bears, under rookie coach Ben Johnson, find themselves in first place in the NFC North as they prepare for a game against Green Bay on December 7.
Just a year prior, the Bears faced a disappointing Thanksgiving loss to Detroit, which initiated the firing of coach Matt Eberflus and a disastrous six-game losing streak. Fast forward to this season, and the Bears dominated Philadelphia’s defensive line with surprising ease.
The Eagles, now at 8-4, seemed to have lost their grip on the NFC East just two weeks ago. Back-to-back defeats have dashed their hopes of returning to Super Bowl contention. Perhaps still reeling from a shocking loss to Dallas after leading 21-0, their offense struggled to generate momentum, prompting frustrated fans to boo and call for offensive coordinator Kevin Pattullo’s dismissal.
Even Tash Push, once a fan favorite, hasn’t been able to avert disaster for the Eagles this season.
As the third quarter wound down with the Eagles trailing 10-9, Jalen Hurts mishandled a crucial play deep in Chicago’s territory, leading to a Bears turnover.
The Bears are known for their ability to succeed in close games, and they capitalized on this mistake. Monangai rushed for 31 yards on the subsequent play, and quarterback Caleb Williams kept the drive alive with a 7-yard pass to Colston Loveland on fourth down.
Monangai secured a 4-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter, extending the lead to 17-9, followed by a 28-yard touchdown pass from Williams to Cole Kmet that made it 24-9.
Frustrated fans reacted, with one yelling, “Shoot Kevin!” as many began to leave the stands, highlighting the growing concern around the Eagles’ struggling offense.
The Bears remained unfazed. Despite three linebackers sidelined with injuries, they came out strong against Philly.
Meanwhile, Hurts threw for 230 yards and connected with disgruntled receiver AJ Brown for two touchdowns, with Brown recording 10 catches for 132 yards. However, Saquon Barkley failed to penetrate the league’s weakest run defense, finishing with only 56 rushing yards.
During the first half, the Eagles could only muster 17 plays and two first downs, totaling 83 yards, with a mere 26 yards coming from rushing. In contrast, the Bears managed an impressive 142 rushing yards before halftime.
Swift, the first running back to exceed 100 yards against the Eagles this season, scored on a 3-yard run to give Chicago an early 7-0 lead. Hurts found Brown for a 33-yard touchdown in the third quarter, narrowing the score to 10-9 after missing an extra point following another regrettable play from kicker Jake Elliott.
Although Hurts and Brown connected for 4-yard touchdowns late in the fourth quarter, the Eagles failed on a two-point conversion attempt, maintaining their position behind by two scores.
