Ohio State ends four-game losing streak against Michigan with impressive victory in Ann Arbor

It’s been a thrilling day in college football as Ohio State took down Michigan State with a decisive 27-9 victory, finally breaking a frustrating four-game losing streak against their fierce rival.

Initially, it seemed like Michigan was in control. They started strong, getting a field goal on their opening drive and another following an aggressive tackle by Julian Sain on the Buckeyes. But that initial score didn’t hold much weight once Ohio State surged ahead with a touchdown soon after.

Ohio State managed to score a field goal, narrowing the gap. However, things heated up when Sain connected with Jeremiah Smith for a 35-yard touchdown early in the second quarter. There was some controversy around that play—Smith briefly lost grip of the ball, leading to speculation it could have been a touchback, but the call stood. Michigan scored another field goal afterward, but Ohio State wasn’t done. They capped the first half with a touchdown from Brandon Innis, going into halftime with an eight-point lead. As if that wasn’t enough excitement, it started snowing, which seemed to favor Ohio State further.

The second half kicked off with both teams trading punts, but Ohio State quickly set up for a big play. Michigan struggled, only managing to gain 11 yards, giving the Buckeyes excellent field position. On just the second play of their next drive, Colonel Tate, playing his first game since early November, dashed for a 50-yard touchdown, extending Ohio State’s lead to 24-9.

After forcing another Michigan punt, Ohio State executed a lengthy 20-play drive. Though Michigan got in a field goal, it did little to alter the game’s dynamics, as they fell further behind. With just over eight minutes left, Ohio State held a solid 27-9 lead, leaving Michigan with limited options.

In the end, Sain completed 19 of 26 passes for 233 yards, while Ohio State amassed an additional 186 yards. On the other side, Michigan’s Bryce Underwood’s performance was a struggle at 8-of-18 for 63 yards and just 100 rushing yards.

Interestingly, the last time Ohio State had a triumph over Michigan was back in 2019, making this victory even sweeter, especially after last year’s shocking upset where Michigan inflicted a resounding defeat upon the Buckeyes. This time, Ohio State made sure not to let the rivalry slip through their fingers again. Even though they faced a lot of pushback near midfield, they ended up celebrating in Ann Arbor, surrounded by red-clad supporters.

Looking ahead, Ohio State is all set to face No. 2 Indiana in the Big Ten Championship next week, while Michigan is left waiting to see where they will land for a bowl game.
