Tragic Accident Claims Lives of Father and Three Children in Colorado
Authorities have identified the father and his three young children who lost their lives in a devastating crash involving a stolen vehicle in Colorado. The incident, which took place on Monday, resulted in the deaths of Alvin Corrado, 35, and his children Makenley, 11, Toretto, 8, along with their friend Jace Green, 12. Reportedly, the suspect connected to the stolen car had a previous criminal record and was on parole during the collision.
The collision occurred on Highway 83 near milepost 40.5 just before 4:40 p.m., when the family’s Ford sedan was struck head-on by a stolen Toyota hatchback, as indicated by the Colorado State Patrol (CSP).
According to the Aurora Police Department (APD), the Toyota had been reported stolen roughly an hour prior to the crash, resulting from a carjacking at Aurora’s Nine Mile Station.
Walter Huling, 31, the suspect in the case, allegedly pulled a woman from the driver’s seat of the Toyota before driving away, as stated by the Douglas County Coroner’s Office. Reports suggest that Huling lost control of the vehicle while traveling on the highway, swerving into oncoming traffic and crashing into the family’s car. Unfortunately, all four occupants of the Ford sedan died at the scene.
In the back seat were Mia, 13, sister of Toretto, and Green’s 14-year-old brother, both of whom sustained serious injuries and were subsequently airlifted to a hospital.
Huling was known to have a lengthy criminal history and was under parole supervision after previous arrests for various offenses, including assault, robbery, and DUI. His record extends back to his teenage years, highlighting significant concerns about public safety.
Doug County District Attorney George Brauchler expressed frustration regarding the incident, questioning Colorado’s handling of parole violations. “There’s a lot of understandable anger and questions after an incident like this,” he noted. His comments reflect a growing concern regarding how individuals on parole are managed.
Mia’s mother, Marissa Corrado, shared updates about her daughter’s condition, revealing that Mia had suffered multiple severe injuries, including a lacerated liver and broken bones. Mia was conscious throughout her experience, recalling the moments leading up to the accident. Marissa conveyed the emotional burden Mia is carrying, as she navigates through this traumatic event.
A wake for McKenley and Toretto is planned in Colorado Springs, with a joint funeral to take place in South Dakota, pending Mia’s recovery. Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page has been established to assist with funeral expenses, medical costs, and support for Marissa during this challenging time.
As McKenley’s school mourns her loss, they described her as a bright young member of the community who brought joy to those around her. “Please keep the entire McKenley family in your thoughts during this difficult time,” the school stated.
