Inmate on the Loose After Escaping Atlanta Hospital
Authorities are currently searching for an inmate described as “armed and dangerous” who escaped from an Atlanta hospital early Monday morning.
The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office reported that Timothy Schoen fled after being taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for a medical evaluation, which followed a suicide attempt incident. He was transported around 8 p.m. Sunday by State Emergency Medical Services and sheriff’s deputies. Shane managed to escape while in custody of a deputy at approximately 1:20 a.m. Monday.
Later, the owner of a nearby stolen SUV informed the authorities that a Glock handgun was missing from their vehicle. Reports indicate that Shane initially ran away on foot before stealing a parked SUV. After crashing the SUV, he fled the scene on foot, potentially still armed.
Authorities are particularly concerned due to Shane’s criminal background, which includes serious felonies related to drugs and weapons. They are urging the public to consider him “armed and dangerous.” Shane is described as a white male, standing about 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a buzz-cut hairstyle. At the time of his escape, he was last seen wearing a blue hospital gown and no shoes.
Grady Memorial Hospital stated its policy mandates that jail law enforcement must maintain “one-on-one supervision” of inmates receiving treatment at the facility. The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office has multiple teams actively searching for Shane, but as of Monday afternoon, no new developments have been reported.
