Giants Kicker’s Unusual Field Goal Attempt
On Monday night, during a game against the New England Patriots, Giants kicker Younghoe Koo made an attempt at a rather bizarre field goal. His subsequent explanation for missing the kick was just as strange.
In the second quarter, with New York up by 10 points, Koo came in for a 47-yard field goal, aiming to trim the lead to just one point before halftime. Unfortunately, after being released by the Atlanta Falcons earlier this season for a significant error, Koo miscalculated his timing and missed the ball completely, making contact with the turf instead.
A scramble ensued for the loose ball, resulting in teammate Jamie Gillan being tackled and suffering a 13-yard sack from Jeremiah Farms.
The unusual kick quickly circulated on social media, especially highlighted by rookie quarterback Jackson Dart’s reaction from the sidelines.
After the match, Koo attributed the botched kick to the cold weather in Foxborough. “As I was getting close to the ball, it felt like it slipped away from me because of the cold,” Koo explained. “I couldn’t follow through properly and just pulled it up instead.”
He acknowledged that while Gillan did well to secure the ball and try to recover, it was unfortunately too late to fix the situation.
This mishap wasn’t the Giants’ only issue during the game. Gunner Olszewski also had a fumble on a kickoff return when he was caught between two defenders, Marte Mapu and Christian Ellis.
The Patriots took advantage of the Giants’ special teams struggles, ultimately rallying to 27 points. Andy Borregales later added his second field goal of the half.
The final score saw the Patriots winning 33-15, marking their 10th consecutive victory while both teams headed into a bye week.
