Rodney Harrison Addresses Recent Mishap on NBC
Rodney Harrison, a two-time Super Bowl champion, recently discussed an unexpected silence during NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” pregame show. When the conversation turned to the Washington Commanders’ defense, the 52-year-old analyst suddenly stopped speaking, raising concerns among viewers about his health. However, Harrison clarified that he was simply exhausted.
“I only managed a few hours of sleep while watching my son play the night before,” he explained, adding that he had been busy with work and only got three hours of sleep on the day of the show.
“I was really tired, but I’m okay,” he reassured fans.
Harrison is a father of two who both play Division I college football—his son Christian is a safety at Cincinnati while RJ plays cornerback at Wofford College. He often travels between the East and West Coasts to catch their games, which can definitely contribute to fatigue.
The analyst felt the effects of travel fatigue when Tony Dungy and Jack Collinsworth prompted him about strategies to tackle the Commanders’ defense. Initially, Harrison seemed to lose his train of thought, remarking, “Oh, yeah…” before trailing off. After Collinsworth reiterated the question, Harrison admitted he’d forgotten it. When he finally answered, he was still a bit hesitant.
He commented on the team’s discipline, apologizing for his earlier confusion. “There’s a lot going on… I’m sorry. They just don’t have a lot of discipline on the defensive side of the ball… That’s it,” he mentioned, somewhat remorseful.
Harrison later appeared on the postgame show, reflecting on his lengthy career, which includes 34 interceptions and over 1,200 tackles as a two-time All-Pro.
