Investigation into COVID Fraud Allegations in Minnesota

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, a member of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor party, faces allegations of obstruction as the Trump administration launches an investigation into claims of significant fraud involving the Somali community.

Kelly Loeffler from the Small Business Administration announced this investigation on Tuesday, following multiple fraud charges tied to COVID-19 relief funds.

“Despite Governor Walz’s attempts to hinder our efforts, the SBA is determined to uncover these abuses and ensure accountability,” Loeffler stated.

She highlighted that many individuals and nonprofits implicated in Minnesota’s $1 billion COVID-19 fraud case, such as Feeding Our Future, also received loans from the SBA’s PPP program, among other federal and state financial assistance.

Federal prosecutors reported their 78th indictment in this ongoing fraud case in November. The latest defendant, Abdirashid Bixi Dole, is accused of creating false records for a bogus food business to embezzle over $1 million in relief funds.

Numerous individuals have already been sentenced for their involvement in this scandal. The Feeding Our Future fraud is a significant part of this case.

Loeffler further criticized the former Democratic vice presidential candidate for allegedly obstructing the investigation.

“Today, I’ve ordered an in-depth examination of the Somali organizations linked to these frauds,” she added. “Again, the SBA is committed to holding these individuals responsible despite the governor’s interference.”

She referenced a report from employees of the Minnesota Department of Human Services, accusing Walz of being complicit in the embezzlement of government funds.

A statement from this group declared, “Tim Walz is entirely responsible for the extensive fraud in Minnesota. We informed him of the fraud early on, hoping for intervention, but instead faced the opposite response.”

Walz was subpoenad in September by the U.S. House Education and Labor Committee for not adequately responding to requests for documents related to the investigation.

A spokesperson for Walz stated that this situation represents a severe misuse of the federal government’s COVID-19 response initiatives.
