Lane Kiffin’s work situation, according to his daughter, isn’t really “that deep.”
Landry Kiffin, a sophomore at Ole Miss, took to social media on Sunday to address the upset surrounding her father’s decision to leave Ole Miss for the head coaching position at LSU.
In the video she posted, Landry said, “I wish I could be as creative as angry football fans,” adding a heart and hand emoji for effect.
She sported sunglasses and flashed a peace sign, captioning the post with “It’s not that deep.”
Landry also engaged with numerous comments supporting her father’s choice to leave the Rebels just ahead of the College Football Playoff, after six seasons in the role.
One commenter pointed out Kiffin’s lucrative seven-year contract with LSU, saying, “Sorry, but if someone offers me $90 million…boy bye.”
Another remark suggested, “People need to understand that it’s his job, basically like he got promoted.”
Following the Rebels’ 38-19 victory over Mississippi State on Friday, it was anticipated that Kiffin’s future would be addressed on Saturday.
On Sunday, Kiffin confirmed via social media that he’d be heading to Baton Rouge. LSU had targeted him after the dismissal of coach Brian Kelly in late October.
Landry attended her father’s introductory press conference at Tiger Stadium on Monday, joined by her brother Knox and their mother Layla.
It’s still uncertain whether Landry plans to transfer to LSU from Ole Miss.
Interestingly, her boyfriend, Whit Weeks, is one of the top linebackers for the Tigers, and they have been dating since announcing their relationship on Instagram in September.
In 2022, Landry relocated from Los Angeles to Oxford to complete high school, enrolling at Ole Miss. At that time, her father was also fielding offers from other programs after some successful games with the Rebels.
In an ESPN E:60 documentary titled “The Many Lives of Lane Kiffin,” Kiffin mentioned that Landry was the one who encouraged him to remain at the University of Mississippi, even after he considered moving to Auburn in 2022.
