The latest College Football Playoff rankings have been unveiled, giving us a clearer picture as the playoffs approach this month.
Ohio State and Indiana hold onto their top two spots. The Buckeyes managed to avenge a four-year losing streak against Michigan last Saturday, while Indiana pulled off a challenging victory over Purdue. Both undefeated teams will face off for the No. 1 seed during the Big Ten Championship this Saturday.
Unfortunately, Texas A&M dropped their game against Texas, which knocked them out of the SEC title match and down to seventh place. Still, they’re expected to host a playoff game. This shake-up allowed for Georgia, Texas Tech, Oregon State, and Ole Miss—despite Lane Kiffin moving to LSU—to climb up one position in the rankings. Texas Tech is currently in a bye week situation.
Steve Sarkisian and freshman quarterback Arch Manning made a convincing case for Texas to join the playoffs after their win over Texas Tech. Despite their efforts, Texas remains in 13th place, just outside the playoff picture.
If the season were to end now, the top ten teams would advance to the playoffs, but the 11th and 12th spots remain for the last two conference champions. Currently, BYU at 11 and Miami at 12 are on the outside looking in. BYU will be competing against Texas Tech in the Big 12 title game, but Miami’s chances seem slim since the conference championship is set to be played between No. 17 Virginia and unranked Duke.
