Deputies from the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office in upstate New York responded to an assault with a deadly weapon in Vernon on Monday night. Vernon is situated roughly 40 minutes east of Syracuse.
Authorities were alerted to a person behaving erratically on Simmons Road, who was reportedly pointing what looked like a handgun at two individuals.
According to reports, the two victims tried to escape to a nearby house, but the suspect pursued them with the weapon.
A struggle ensued between the suspect and one of the victims, who managed to take the weapon away from the suspect.
When police arrived, they arrested the suspect without any issues.
The suspect was identified as 40-year-old Glenn A. Wallis, a resident of Vernon, and was subsequently taken to the Kurt B. Wyman Law Enforcement Building.
Wallis faces two counts of second-degree menacing, categorized as Class A misdemeanors, along with one count of second-degree harassment, which authorities describe as a violation.
Furthermore, he was also charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a Class D felony, as indicated by members of the Criminal Investigation Division.
Reportedly, the weapon in question was a pistol-style pellet gun.
Wallis was then taken to the Oneida County Correctional Facility, awaiting a hearing set for Tuesday. He remained in jail Wednesday morning, with records indicating a previous conviction related to weapons possession.
Online comments regarding the incident were not very sympathetic to Wallis. Some users even noted the absurdity of the situation, making remarks about the toy-like nature of the weapon he wielded.
- “Looks like he brought an old-fashioned toy gun with him,” one commenter noted.
- Another commented on such behavior being typical for people who might be a bit lower on the evolutionary scale.
- One user pointed out, “He should consider himself lucky it wasn’t in Texas—there are folks who wouldn’t show him mercy!”
- Another quipped, “Apparently, things didn’t go too well for him.”
- “This is what FAFO looks like!” another added, likely referencing the situation’s absurdity.
