Trump Offers Pardon to Congressman Cuellar
Over a year and a half after being indicted on federal charges while President Biden was in office, President Trump declared he would provide an “unconditional pardon.” This announcement came on Wednesday morning via social media, where Trump stated he would extend a “full and unconditional pardon” to Representative Henry Cuellar, a Texas Democrat facing scrutiny.
In his message, Trump alleged that President Biden was using the Justice Department and FBI as tools against political adversaries, even targeting members of his own party. He implied that Cuellar might have been singled out by the Biden administration due to his steadfast advocacy for stronger border security measures.
“Sleepy Joe went after a congressman, and even his wonderful wife, simply because she told the truth. This is un-American. The Radical Left Democratic Party poses a significant threat to our democracy. They will attack, rob, and deceive anyone who stands against their extreme agenda, which could ultimately dismantle our great country,” Trump expressed in his post.
In light of these circumstances, Trump formally announced, “I hereby grant a full and unconditional pardon for my beloved Texas Congressman Henry Cuellar and his wife, Imelda. Henry, I think you can rest easy tonight. Your nightmare is finally over!”
The former president also shared a letter from Cuellar’s daughters, Christina and Catherine, who had been advocating for the pardon. In it, they conveyed the emotional and financial strain the situation had caused, stating, “Our faith has been tested in unexpected ways, but it hasn’t broken. We still believe in justice and in America being a nation grounded in truth and compassion.”
Cuellar was indicted back in May 2024 on multiple federal bribery-related charges, though he was not convicted. At the time, Trump remarked that Biden’s indictment of Cuellar was due to the congressman opposing “Crooked Joe’s open border policies,” which he believes resulted in using federal resources to discredit him.
