A man with a history of sexual offenses has been charged again, now facing allegations of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman over several days at a hotel. This comes only months after he was released without serving jail time for previous attacks, including a case involving a 15-year-old girl.
Abdimahat Bill Mohamed, a 28-year-old from Minneapolis, reportedly confined the victim in a hotel in Bloomington, Minnesota, and assaulted her repeatedly after taking her phone, as detailed in court filings.
Despite two prior convictions for rape—one involving a minor—Mohamed had been sentenced in May 2025 to life in prison following a plea deal in a Minnesota court.
In the latest incident, which took place in September, he allegedly met a woman via Snapchat, picked her up from her home in Mankato, and then threatened her, according to court documents.
It was reported that he took her phone as she tried to escape, insisting, “I’m not going home,” and continued to drive her to a hotel where he reportedly raped her over several days.
On September 21, she managed to escape from his car in Minneapolis, visibly shaken and distressed, prompting a passerby to call the authorities.
Just a few months prior, Mohamed had been convicted of two sexual assault incidents, one of which involved an underage girl, but he avoided prison time after negotiating a plea deal.
Prosecutors also revealed that he had been arrested in May 2024 for raping another woman he met on Snapchat in his apartment. Emergency responders learned from the victim that Mohamed had threatened her with a gun and strangled her during the assaults.
Witnesses claimed they heard screaming and discovered Mohamed in the act, at which point he threatened them too.
Additionally, in October 2024, he was indicted for another rape that took place in December 2017. In that situation, he allegedly lured a 15-year-old girl on the platform Snapchat and subsequently assaulted her while others were present.
In May 2025, a judge found him guilty of two counts of rape and imposed a sentence of three years, which was deferred for five years, resulting in no jail time. Mohamed also received probation and some time at a workhouse.
Following a separate sexual assault charge in 2024, he was sentenced to 14 months in prison, a sentence also stayed, again allowing him to avoid incarceration.
The recent charges against him have led to significant public anger, with various figures expressing their dismay over what they perceive as leniency for someone with such a violent background.
Many prominent voices on social media have called for harsher punishments for repeat offenders, questioning the justice system’s handling of these cases.
The Hennepin County Attorney’s Office has indicated that they took these charges seriously, though they did not respond to all inquiries immediately. Mohamed is currently in custody without bail and is scheduled for a court appearance on December 31.
