Fatal Crash in California Involves Undocumented Immigrant

Authorities report that the primary suspect in a tragic head-on collision in California, which resulted in the death of an 8-year-old girl, is an undocumented immigrant. This individual had previously faced charges for drunk driving and had been ordered to leave the country in 2023.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has identified 25-year-old Guatemalan national Brayan Josué Alba Rodriguez as a person of interest in this fatal incident. The crash occurred last Sunday in the Julian area of San Diego County.

The accident took place around 3 p.m. on a two-lane rural road, S-2. Reports indicate that the girl and several others were injured in the collision.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Alba Rodriguez was driving a 2005 Toyota Tacoma heading north when he crossed the solid yellow line. His truck then collided head-on with a Toyota Camry traveling southbound.

After that, the Tacoma struck a Ford F-350 that was also heading north and towing a utility trailer. Eventually, the Tacoma overturned and caught fire. Firefighters managed to rescue one person who was trapped, while the two occupants of the Tacoma escaped on their own.

Emergency services airlifted five individuals to the hospital using four helicopters, while three others were transported by ambulance. Sadly, out of the three children in the Camry, the two boys aged 5 and 4 survived, but the girl succumbed to her injuries.

Alba Rodriguez illegally entered the U.S. on February 8, 2018, and was later apprehended by border patrol agents in Calexico, California. He was given a notice for an immigration hearing and subsequently released. However, he faced drunk driving charges twice in 2020 and 2021 while his immigration case was still pending. An immigration judge ordered his deportation in March 2023, but he did not leave the country as instructed.

ICE has stated that “innocent lives were lost in this preventable tragedy” and that immigration agents will be assigned to him once formal charges are made. Fox News Digital has reached out to the California Highway Patrol for further comment.
