William Fastow Testifies in Anna Walsh Murder Trial
During the ongoing murder trial of Brian Walsh, testimony was provided by William Fastow, Anna Walsh’s lover, on Thursday. He revealed that he and Anna had begun an “intimate” relationship prior to her mysterious disappearance on January 1, 2023.
Fastow, who works as a real estate agent, assisted Anna in finding a place to stay in Washington, D.C. while she traveled back and forth from her parents’ home in Boston. He mentioned that he was also separated from his own wife, and, like Anna, had children.
In the courtroom, it was highlighted that Brian Walsh had previously pled guilty to misleading law enforcement but continues to assert his innocence regarding the murder of his wife.
Fastow spoke about their growing connection, noting common interests like fitness and shared experiences as parents. Eventually, their relationship developed into an affair. He clarified that while he never spent the night at her townhouse, Anna did stay over at his place. Though their affair was not a secret in their circles, Anna had informed her husband that she would want him to know if he ever discovered the truth.
Interestingly, just months before Anna’s death, the couple traveled together to Dublin for Thanksgiving. Following this trip, Anna went to Serbia to visit her mother before returning to Washington, leaving Fastow behind.
Fastow shared that Anna had expressed disappointment about not being able to be the mother her children deserved, referring to the situation with her husband. He added that the children were living with their father in Cohasset due to his restrictions from a federal art fraud conviction, which mandated that he be the primary caregiver.
Prosecutors have outlined two potential motives behind the alleged murder: one stemming from anger over the affair and the other suggesting that Brian Walsh wanted to improve his chances of avoiding federal prison by taking care of their children alone.
Brian Walsh’s defense contends he had no knowledge of the circumstances surrounding Anna’s disappearance. However, there were instances where he mentioned Fastow during police interviews and reportedly looked him up online before Anna went missing. To date, Anna’s body has not been located.
In a compelling twist, prosecutors presented jurors with evidence, including a saw and a machete discovered in a dumpster close to Walsh’s mother’s house. These items are believed to have been used in the dismemberment of Anna. Alongside these items, authorities found her COVID-19 vaccination card, clothing, bloody towels, and a ripped rug that closely resembled one from her parents’ residence.
