FBI Arrests Suspect in Pipe Bomb Case
The FBI has made a significant breakthrough by arresting a suspect linked to the pipe bombs discovered outside the Republican and Democratic National Committee offices on January 5, 2021.
Prior to this arrest, identifying the suspect had proven challenging, as he was masked and wore glasses and gloves. This development adds a new chapter to the almost five-year investigation.
Reports indicate that the arrest occurred early Thursday morning and involved a Virginia resident.
Although none of the bombs detonated, investigators confirmed that they were capable of causing “serious injury or death” had they exploded. The devices were found about 17 hours after installation, coinciding with Congress’s meeting to certify the 2020 electoral votes.
Former U.S. Attorney Gregory Rosen remarked, “This is a testament to the painstaking efforts of the career investigators and prosecutors who worked on this case for many years. We don’t yet know all the facts, but the FBI should be proud of the thoroughness with which they continued their investigation.”
Before the arrest, the FBI conducted over 1,000 interviews, analyzed around 39,000 video files, and performed more than 600 public information searches.
The long delay in arrests sparked conspiracy theories, including comments from current FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino. He suggested, “There’s a massive cover-up of who planted the pipe bomb… either it’s an anti-Trump insider or it’s an inside job.”
A report from November 8, 2025, indicated that gait analysis suggested a former Capitol Police officer, Shauni Rae Kerkoff from Alexandria, Virginia, could be connected to the incident. The analysis noted a “94% to 98% match” between her gait and the suspect seen on surveillance footage, although some analysts believe the match could be as high as 98%.
Bongino, in response to this analysis, expressed frustration, stating, “After nearly a week of 24-hour work on recent open source leads in this case, we are still unable to resolve the situation. Additionally, some media reports regarding previous persons of interest are highly inaccurate and only serve to mislead the public.”
The details leading to the recent arrests remain undisclosed by the FBI.
Breaking News: A suspect in the January 6th pipe bomb incident is finally in custody, after four years of mystery. Both the Biden and Trump administrations have faced challenges with this case.
