Family of Missing Virginia High School Football Coach
The family of Travis Turner, a high school football coach in Virginia, has issued a statement through their attorney, indicating their desire for him to return home to face child pornography charges. They are actively cooperating with law enforcement in the search for him.
Adrian Collins, the family attorney, said, “Their home and property have been searched multiple times with their consent.” Turner, aged 46, was last seen near his home in Appalachia, walking into the woods with a firearm. He had mentioned to his family that he often did this throughout the year.
Leslie Caudill Turner, his wife, became alarmed when her husband disappeared—especially since he left behind important items like his car, keys, wallet, and prescription medication. At that moment, she sensed something was very wrong.
“It’s not like Travis to disappear or be away from home,” the statement noted. Concern grew deeply when she contacted the Virginia State Police to file a missing persons report.
Charges Filed After His Disappearance
Upon further developments, it was emphasized by Collins that Turner was not a fugitive prior to his disappearance. “No charges were filed until a few days later when he didn’t come home,” he explained, adding, “My wife wasn’t helping him escape; she was just looking for him.”
Authorities later acquired ten warrants against Turner, which include five counts of possession of child pornography and five counts of using a computer to solicit a minor.
Collins made a heartfelt appeal on behalf of the family for Turner to return. He said, “If Travis is competent and able to meet the needs of his family, your wife and children will be in trouble. Leslie is pleading with you to go home and face the charges.” The family misses him and wants him to know they are supportive.
The U.S. Marshals Service has offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to his arrest. Following the launch of the investigation, Turner’s profile was removed from the Union High School website.
Administrative Action by School District
According to a statement from Wise County Public Schools, Turner has been placed on administrative leave due to the ongoing situation, pending an external review. Superintendent Mike Goforth stated that the district is cooperating with law enforcement while distinguishing that Turner is banned from school property and has no contact with students.
As of now, Turner was last seen wearing a gray sweatshirt and sweatpants. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Virginia State Police or the U.S. Marshals Service. Reports can be directed to 911 or submitted through the tip lines.
