Woman Admits to Assaulting Boyfriend on Thanksgiving
A woman from Mesa, Arizona, has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly attacking her boyfriend while he slept on Thanksgiving night. Court records indicate that she made a troubling statement, declaring, “Today is my Independence Day.”
Tamara Rudesiel, 52, was taken into custody and is currently held at the Maricopa County Jail with a bond set at $1 million.
During a 911 call placed around 8 p.m., Rudesiel reportedly expressed her frustration, saying, “I’m sick of what you did to me. Today is Independence Day.” Authorities disclosed that she also admitted to the act, stating, “Yeah… I just tried to kill you” and expressed willingness to face the consequences, saying, “I’m ready to go to jail.”
When police arrived, they discovered Rudesiel’s boyfriend with a severe cut stretching from his left ear to the center of his neck. He was promptly transported to a local hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. Fortunately, he is expected to survive.
The victim recounted to investigators that they had engaged in an argument earlier that day. He described waking up to a sharp pain in his neck and used his shirt to stem the bleeding until help arrived.
Rudesiel and her boyfriend had been in a relationship for 11 years. Reports indicate that she often struggled with feelings of depression around the holidays.
According to court documents, she had warned her boyfriend about her intentions, stating, “I’m going to slit your (expletive) throat.” When pressed about her actions, she reportedly expressed a chilling sentiment: “God, I hope he dies because it’s for the best of me, his wife, and his children.”
Rudesiel also mentioned plans to stab him in the heart and claimed that he was unproductive at home, accusing him of doing nothing but smoking and drinking. Police recovered a large hunting knife near the scene of the incident.
The case is currently under review by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, and Rudesiel remains in custody.
