National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony
WASHINGTON, D.C. – During the National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony near the White House on Thursday night, President Donald Trump shared a quote from the Gospel.
Accompanied by First Lady Melania Trump, he cited John 1:4, stating, “In him was life, and that life was a light to all mankind.” He remarked on the beauty of those words.
He added, “With the birth of Jesus, human history turned from night to day. His words and example urge us to love and serve one another, recognizing that every child is uniquely made in the image of God.”
Looking ahead, President Trump mentioned that America’s 250th anniversary is set for July 4, 2026. He noted, “Our nation stands tall due to millions who have embraced that call, with Christian faith and service woven into America’s foundation.”
He also expressed support for all religions, saying, “We love Christians. We love all religions. By the way, religion is making a comeback in America, and it’s evident.”
He emphasized that during Advent, Christians globally celebrate the miracle of Jesus’s birth over 2,000 years ago, saying, “In this holy season, Christians rejoice as the Son of God, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, came down from heaven to be with us.”
“Full of grace and truth, he brought God’s love to the world and the promise of salvation for all,” he added.
After the countdown, the First Lady lit the tree.
President Trump wrapped up by wishing everyone a Merry Christmas, a Happy Hanukkah, and a Happy New Year.
Attendees included Vice President J.D. Vance and family, as well as Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Attorney General Pam Bondy, and other officials. The president noted that NHL star Wayne Gretzky was also present.
Musical acts performed during the event, featuring artists like the Beach Boys, Gabby Barrett, Jon Pardi, and others.
