ICE Arrests Somali Immigrant Linked to Minnesota Politicians
On Friday, amid President Trump’s immigration enforcement efforts, an undocumented immigrant from Somalia was apprehended. This individual, Abdul Dahir Ibrahim, has a lengthy history of fraud charges and connections to notable Democratic figures in Minnesota, including Governor Tim Walz and Representative Ilhan Omar.
Ibrahim was taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and is currently being held at a facility in McCook, Nebraska, which the Department of Homeland Security playfully refers to as “Cornhusker Crink.” Records indicate that he has been subject to a removal order since 2004.
Prior to his arrival in the United States, Ibrahim was convicted of asylum and welfare fraud in Canada. In 2002, he was arrested in Dakota County, Minnesota, for providing misleading information to authorities and for driving without a valid license.
As a result, he received a fine and a suspended one-year sentence. His history in the U.S. is marked by 12 traffic and parking violations. Interestingly, during his stay, he was photographed with several high-profile politicians in Minnesota.
Social media posts from DHS featured Ibrahim alongside Walz, Omar, and former mayoral candidate Omar Fateh. One report highlighted Ibrahim’s ties to significant political figures in what is described as a sanctuary state.
The post noted that Ibrahim was removed from office after an immigration judge discovered extensive fraud linked to him in 2004, declaring, “Bye, Abdul.”
Images shared included one of Ibrahim handcuffed and being escorted by federal agents into an unmarked vehicle. It was also reported that Fateh had previously written a letter of recommendation for Ibrahim during his immigration proceedings.
Ibrahim had entered the U.S. through New York in 1995 after being deported from Canada. In one of his rejected asylum claims, he falsely claimed that his sister and her children were his wife and kids. The judge dismissed his petition, emphasizing his “total lack of credibility.”
Despite this, Ibrahim was eventually granted Temporary Protected Status (TPS), which provided him with a decade-long protection against deportation. However, it’s unclear whether his application for an extension of TPS has been resolved.
Recently, President Trump announced the cessation of TPS for Somali citizens, and this week, ICE initiated a significant deportation operation in Minnesota due to suspicions of widespread fraud involving the Somali community in the state.
