Michael Annett, a former NASCAR driver, has died at the age of 39, as confirmed by his team, JR Motorsports, on Friday.
The details surrounding Annett’s death remain unclear. He was part of JR Motorsports in the Xfinity Series from 2017 until 2021. Fellow driver Brad Keselowski expressed his condolences on social media, emphasizing that Annett is now free from suffering.
JR Motorsports shared their grief online, stating, “We extend our condolences to the entire Annett family on the passing of our friend Michael Annett. He played a critical role in our team from 2017 to his retirement and was instrumental in our development into a four-car organization.”
Annett hailed from Iowa and leaves behind a notable career with over 400 starts across NASCAR’s three national series, debuting back in 2008. His career highlight includes a victory in the 2019 Xfinity Series at Daytona, marking his only NASCAR win.
His most successful season was in 2012 when he finished fifth in the Xfinity Series points standings, with six top-five finishes during that year.
In his final racing season in 2021, Annett dealt with a stress fracture in his right foot.
