Trump Honors Kennedy Center Honorees
President Trump recently held a ceremony in the Oval Office to celebrate a notable group of performers by awarding them with medals.
On December 6, Trump, dressed in a tuxedo, presented gold medallions to this year’s Kennedy Center honorees. The impressive list included iconic figures such as Sylvester Stallone, known for his roles in the Rocky films, Gene Simmons from KISS, singer Gloria Gaynor, actor Michael Crawford, and country star George Strait.
“This is an iconic group whose work and accomplishments have inspired, uplifted and united millions of Americans,” he remarked proudly.
During the event, the president gracefully draped a custom Tiffany medal around each recipient’s neck. Unlike the usual rainbow ribbon, this medal was hung from a blue ribbon, displaying the recipient’s name on one side and the multicolored Kennedy Center logo on the reverse. Tiffany had generously provided the medallion specifically for this occasion.
Trump emphasized the significance of this particular group, stating, “This is probably the most distinguished and prestigious class of Kennedy Center recipients ever assembled.”
The atmosphere in the Rose Garden was lively, filled with the sounds of classic hits like Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” and KISS’s “I Was Made for Lovin’ You.”
In addition to acknowledging the honorees, Trump highlighted ongoing renovations at the Kennedy Center, saying, “We’re building something really special.” He added, perhaps a bit candidly, “To be honest, it’s a little bit like the way the White House has been abused, but we’re bringing it back to levels that I don’t think we’ve seen anywhere else in the country.”
As the event approached, Trump, who also serves as chairman of the Kennedy Center, prepared to host the 48th annual awards ceremony on Sunday. First Lady Melania Trump is expected to join him for the occasion.
The Kennedy Center Honors Ceremony is set for Sunday night.
