Cheryl Hines Discusses Criticism in Politics
Cheryl Hines, the actress known for her role in Hollywood and wife of HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., recently opened up about the heightened criticism she faces as she crosses over into the political world. This revelation came during her appearance on ABC’s “The View.”
She shared, “In Hollywood…I never experienced that.” On “Fox & Friends” earlier this week, Hines expressed her thoughts about the new dynamics, stating, “I’m glad the movie was made and released, and everyone is talking about it. There might be chatter about, ‘Oh, this isn’t a good movie,’ and all that. But politics is the next level.”
During her October discussion with Sunny Hostin on “The View,” Hines defended her husband’s qualifications to lead HHS amidst criticisms. Hostin labeled him as “the most unqualified Secretary of Health and Human Services in history,” prompting Hines to highlight that many previous secretaries, in fact, were not doctors. “Ninety percent were not doctors. One was an economist,” she noted on “Fox & Friends.”
Hines reflected on how she approaches conversations when tensions rise, saying, “I try to have a heart-to-heart with someone because that’s part of the problem.” Her goal seems to be bridging gaps in understanding, even if it can be tough. “People put up barriers around themselves and don’t want to listen and connect,” she added. Hines emphasized her desire to understand differing perspectives rather than solely focusing on facts.
When asked if her husband’s political involvement had affected her friendships, she admitted that there are friends she hasn’t spoken to since the election. Hines noted that while Kennedy had strong support in Hollywood as an environmental lawyer, his shift to political activism has been met with mixed reactions, particularly due to the administration he aligns with. “It’s been received differently than it has been in the past simply because of the administration and how people feel about President Trump,” she explained.
