Bill Maher and Ana Kasparian had quite a tense exchange on his podcast, with Maher humorously suggesting that she might not find it appropriate to wear Western-style clothing in many Middle Eastern countries.
Kasparian, the host of the left-leaning online news platform “The Young Turks,” engaged in a heated debate with Maher regarding the conflict in Gaza during the latest episode of “Club Random.”
In the midst of their discussion, Maher prompted Kasparian to identify a city in a Muslim-majority nation where she would feel secure wearing a white minidress, arguing that Israel is unique in the region for embracing Western culture.
“What city would you like to live in? And where would you feel comfortable wearing that dress?” Maher inquired.
Kasparian responded, “I wouldn’t feel comfortable wearing this dress in any country in the Middle East that is unstable,” but Maher cut in.
“You’re really blaming Whitey, aren’t you?” he shot back. “Are you blaming Islam for Whitey?”
Maher pressed further, challenging her, “What are you talking about? You can’t wear that dress now that we’re unstable?”
Kasparian then began discussing Syrian terrorist groups and the civil war, but Maher’s comedic style seemed to overpower her argument.
“Are you saying I can’t wear that dress in Syria because Whitey is destabilizing it?” he asked again.
After accusing him of misrepresenting her words, Kasparian remarked, “When I asked about the dress, you immediately became unstable.”
In the end, she conceded that living in cities from North Africa to Uzbekistan wasn’t realistic for her, agreeing with Maher that Israel would likely be more accepting of her attire.
“I’m sure women my age who grew up in Western countries would probably feel most comfortable in Tel Aviv, and I’ll admit that,” she concluded.
