Dana Perino Announces Novel Release
Dana Perino, a well-known Fox News anchor and bestselling author, shared exciting news on Tuesday about her upcoming debut novel, “Purple State,” which is set to launch on April 21.
The narrative revolves around three young women who leave the hustle of New York City for the charm of a small town in Wisconsin. Central to the story is Dorothy “Dot” Clark, a straightforward PR professional embarking on a career shift alongside her two closest friends. As she navigates this transition, she encounters a kind-hearted truck driver, a refreshing change from her typical romantic interests.
Perino described “Purple State” as a literary piece embedded in the heart of Wisconsin, often deemed the ultimate purple state, combining elements of romantic comedy with touches of political themes.
The plot unfolds in Cedar Falls, Wisconsin, highlighted as a crucial district that could influence the next presidential election. Dot’s friends gradually discover that men from outside their New York bubble might be, perhaps surprisingly, “hotter, smarter, and more grounded than they expected,” even if their political views differ.
As the campaign evolves, the narrative explores questions surrounding love that transcends political borders, while Dot strives to carve out moments with her newfound Midwestern romantic interest.
Perino reflected on her winding career path—from her upbringing in the Rocky Mountain West to local news reporting and White House press secretary for President George W. Bush, to her role in New York City public relations and cable news—mentioning how it all led to this new project.
She noted that a pivotal moment in her life, which she describes as a quarter-life crisis, pushed her to prioritize love and personal relationships over career anxieties. In her words, choosing love “is not a career-limiting decision.”
Since joining Fox News in 2009, Perino has made a name for herself, currently co-anchoring “America’s Newsroom” and co-hosting “The Five.”
Having a deep appreciation for literature, she often shares her recommendations across social platforms. Her previous works include titles like “I Wish Someone Told Me: The Best Advice for Building a Great Career and a Meaningful Life,” and “Everything’s Alright: Life Lessons for Young Women (From a Former Young Woman),” among others.
Reflecting on the political landscape’s growing divide, Perino mentioned that her writings, including “Purple State,” are rooted in experiences that provided insights into how average Americans engage with a spectrum of ideals, aspirations, and dilemmas.
“I genuinely enjoyed every moment of the writing journey,” she stated.
With the book set to hit stores on April 21, avid readers can already pre-order their copies.
