Tigers Rookie Kevin McGonigle’s MLB Debut: A Parking Nightmare
Nothing seems more frustrating than making your MLB debut and struggling to find a place to park, yet that was the reality for Tigers rookie Kevin McGonigle.
The 21-year-old was picked by the Tigers in the first round of the 2023 MLB Draft and finally made his debut this season. He was set to play in the team’s season opener on March 26 in Detroit.
However, one small hiccup turned into a major headache. McGonigle couldn’t find a parking spot around Comerica Park. “During the home opener, I was circling around because I didn’t know where the parking lot was,” he shared. “It was a busy time in the city, so it was pretty frustrating trying to navigate through everything. But we made it there just in time.”
Honestly, I can relate to that kind of dread—it’s like a recurring nightmare you wish would just stay in your sleep. You know, the classic dreams where you can’t find your teeth, or you’re back in high school, or even falling from great heights. All of those are, well, pretty uncanny.
Another rookie, Carter Jensen of the Royals, faced his own bizarre setback when he fell asleep with his alarm going off before a game. “It sucks,” he said. It’s funny how sometimes opportunities slip away due to factors beyond our control. I mean, who hasn’t experienced a big moment ruined by something unexpected?
For instance, I once had a dream about playing guitar in a band like Slipknot, only to realize I couldn’t find my mask right before we were supposed to go on stage. Not really the kind of pressure you want, right?
So, driving to your big league debut and not finding parking? That just sounds like the stuff of nightmares.
At least when McGonigle finally made it, he had a stellar day, going 4-for-5 in the Tigers’ 8-2 victory over the Padres.
