Utah Teacher Charged with Sexual Abuse of Student
A middle school teacher from Utah is facing serious charges—22 in total—for allegedly sexually abusing a student, as reported by authorities. The student, a 13-year-old boy, discussed the turning point in his relationship with his seventh-grade teacher, whom he initially viewed as a caring figure.
Alisha Marie George, aged 40, is facing multiple counts, including four first-degree felony charges related to attempted rape and forcible sodomy. Additionally, she has been charged with 12 counts of second-degree felonies for forcible sexual abuse, distributing pornographic material, and several misdemeanor counts for unlawful kissing of a child, according to KSL-TV.
The boy reportedly expressed how he saw George as a “mother figure,” saying she was “always there for him.” Documents indicate that he met George when he was just 12 years old and at the time of her arrest last month, she was teaching an honors language arts class at Hawthorne Academy in West Jordan.
According to court documentation, the boy stated that as he faced difficulties at home, George had offered to support him, which led to a “close relationship” developing between them. Prosecutors allege that George exploited her trusted position to groom and abuse the child.
One account shared by the victim highlights distress when George offered to assist with his mother’s care, especially when his mother was bedridden, presenting an opportunity for inappropriate actions from her.
The alleged abuse is said to have taken place from December 2023 until July 2024, occurring as the boy turned 13. Reports indicate that there was an inappropriate encounter during the Christmas break that year after she took him home following a movie outing with other students and teachers.
Later, in an interaction, George reportedly told the boy to keep their relationship a secret, leading him to feel he was “at the point of no return.” He felt that, over time, he had entered a “relationship” with her, fearing her anger if he spoke with other female students.
Notably, their last sexual encounter happened in July 2024 inside her vehicle. Even after the incident, George attempted to contact the boy on her birthday, but he rebuffed her and cut off communication on social media.
The victim described George as a “monster,” feeling betrayed because she took advantage of him at a vulnerable moment in his life when he needed support the most.
Following George’s arrest on November 25, several other students came forward, indicating that they had also been subjected to grooming. Authorities have suggested that further charges might be added if more victims are identified.
George is currently held at the Salt Lake County Jail without bail. The spokesperson for Hawthorne Academy confirmed that she has been placed on administrative leave, and all access to school facilities has been revoked. The school is said to be cooperating fully with law enforcement while prioritizing the safety and well-being of its students.
All online references to George have been purged from the school’s official communications. Previously, her biography mentioned that she had been teaching at Hawthorne Academy for 13 years and expressed her love for her job and students.
Despite repeated requests for comment, the West Jordan Police Department has yet to respond.
