Incredible moment police save father and son stuck in the Everglades: 'The sun is setting and the alligators are coming'

Father and Son Rescued from Alligator-Infested Waters in Florida

Dramatic body camera footage reveals the intense moment a father and son were saved from muddy waters filled with alligators in the Florida Everglades.

The alarming video captured two men by a large fire as night approached last Thursday, desperately signaling a rescue helicopter while responders made their way through flooded grass to reach them, as reported by the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.

“We received a call about 30 minutes before sunset,” noted Sheriff Kevin Rambosk.

“When darkness falls in the middle of the Everglades, we need to get people out safely.”

According to deputies, the father had called 911 after their ATV ran out of gas and became stuck in thick mud within the vast 729,000-acre Big Cypress National Preserve, leaving them without food, a reliable light source, and nearly no water.

The father also mentioned that both children ended up barefoot, having lost their shoes to the mud.

“The four-wheeler ran out of gas,” he informed emergency responders, sounding anxious as he explained their predicament.

“We’re trapped in a quagmire, pretty far out, and nearly out of water. The sun is setting, and the crocodiles are getting closer.”

In a state of panic, the father warned rescuers that they had started a fire for warmth, but wild animals were beginning to approach. It wasn’t clear how long they had been stuck before help arrived.

After spotting the fire, the sheriff’s office aviation unit tracked the pair through the wildlife preserve and found them extinguishing the flames when deputies reached the scene.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported. “He’s in the shed…Roger,” rescuers are heard saying in the footage after successfully completing the risky mission.

The relieved father was seen crossing his arms and gently patting his son’s helmet in gratitude.

As Sheriff Rambosk concluded, “This showcases the impressive training of CCSO and the effective collaboration that made this rescue possible.”
