Mike McCarthy Considered for Titans’ Head Coach Position
Mike McCarthy’s name is coming up in discussions regarding the head coaching role for the Titans. The ex-head coach for the Cowboys and Packers is seen by some as an early favorite for Tennessee’s vacant position, according to insights from a recent article.
His expertise in developing quarterbacks might be key for the Titans as they look to maximize the potential of 2025’s No. 1 pick, Cam Ward. That could be a significant factor for Tennessee moving forward.
However, it’s worth noting that not everyone in the Titans’ upper management agrees on McCarthy’s candidacy. There seems to be some uncertainty, with conflicting opinions surfacing about whether or not the team values established voices or if they prefer younger, fresher perspectives.
The vacancy comes after the Titans dismissed Brian Callahan in mid-October, following a rough start to the season with a 1-5 record. Callahan, in his second season, ended with a disappointing record of 4-19.
Currently, interim head coach Mike McCoy is at the helm, but the Titans didn’t see much improvement post-Callahan, struggling to a 1-6 record since his firing, which puts them at 2-11 as they approach Week 15.
McCarthy is reportedly eager to get back into the NFL after leaving the Cowboys in January, following a failed long-term contract negotiation. During his five seasons in Dallas, he managed to achieve a 49-35 record, leading the team to the playoffs three times.
Before his time with the Cowboys, McCarthy had a successful stint with the Packers from 2006 to 2018, accumulating a 204-125 record and even securing a Super Bowl victory in 2011.
His name has also been mentioned as a potential candidate for the Giants following their firing of Brian Daboll last month. Interestingly, McCarthy has spoken positively about Giants rookie quarterback Jackson Dart, indicating he sees a bright future for him in the league.
