Trump Issues Pardon to Former Colorado Clerk Tina Peters

A former official from Colorado, Tina Peters, who was convicted of attempting to hack into voting systems to support claims of election fraud during the 2020 presidential election, is set to receive a pardon. President Trump revealed this decision on his platform, Truth Social, describing her time in prison as a result of her quest for a transparent election.

He characterized Peters as a patriot who faced relentless targeting from Democrats. “Today, I am granting a full pardon to Tina for her efforts to uncover voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election!” he stated.

Earlier this week, a federal judge denied Peters’ request for release despite her claims that her rights were being violated. Peters, 70, is currently serving a nine-year sentence following her conviction for her role in compromising the voting system in Mesa County. She had previously filed a lawsuit asserting her free speech rights had been infringed, yet the judge refrained from ruling on that matter until it was addressed in a Colorado court.

Her lawyer, Peter Ticktin, expressed that he was formally informed about the pardon on Thursday. “Justice will be served for Tina Peters,” he remarked, emphasizing the need for her testimony to expose election fraud. He lamented the conditions of her trial, suggesting it was unjust.

Trump further asserted that Peters is suffering in prison while, paradoxically, Democrats are advocating for leniency towards actual violent criminals. “Democrats have overlooked numerous serious crimes,” he claimed, adding that they seem more focused on prosecuting those advocating for secure elections than on safeguarding citizens.

Previously, Colorado’s Governor, Jared Polis, had stated he would not pardon Peters, citing accountability. The political discourse on this subject continues to unfold as stakeholders express their varying positions.
