Buccaneers’ Tough Loss to Falcons Affects Playoff Dreams
The Buccaneers faced a tough blow in their NFC South match-up, as a loss like this can have serious implications for their season and playoff chances.
After falling to the Falcons 29-28 thanks to a last-second field goal, head coach Todd Bowles expressed his disappointment during the postgame press conference. He made it clear that he found the defeat “unforgivable.”
Bowles was direct in his comments: “That’s inexcusable. I don’t make excuses. You need to focus on where it hurts. It should matter to you. This isn’t just a job; it’s your livelihood.”
The loss stung especially since the Buccaneers (7-7) managed to outscore the Falcons (5-9) 15-8 in the final quarter. Now, they sit in second place in their division, just behind the Panthers (7-6), who are slated to play the Saints on Sunday.
Quarterback Baker Mayfield had a decent performance, racking up 277 yards and scoring two touchdowns. However, an interception with less than nine minutes remaining allowed the Falcons to narrow the gap, ultimately leading to their game-winning drive.
“We’re pissed,” Mayfield said, visibly frustrated. “We expected to win, we wanted to win. We should have been angry. It’s not the defense’s fault; it’s our fault—my fault.”
