Concerns Over Jalen Hurts’ Loyalty?
Is it just a fashion statement, or do Eagles fans really have something to worry about regarding Jalen Hurts’ loyalty?
Before Philadelphia’s solid 31-0 win against the Raiders, Hurts, the Eagles’ quarterback, strolled through the snowy landscape outside Lincoln Financial Field. He donned green sweats, a bomber jacket, and, controversially, a Yankees hat tucked beneath his hood.
Hurts, at 27, stirred some chatter with his outfit choice, especially given the Eagles’ recent struggles—three back-to-back losses and five turnovers in their last outing against the Chargers.
“Yankees hat?!?!?! Seriously, Jalen? This is exactly the wrong vibe the Eagles need right now,” one user remarked. “It’s time to hedge emotionally and beat the Raiders.” Another chimed in, questioning, “Why does he want to draw more attention to himself?”
Yet some fans defended him. One user commented on how Hurts has provided some of the best moments of his life, adding that this choice displayed a lack of awareness—like making a misguided play during a crucial moment. Another brought up the Yankees, reminiscing about past disappointments and expressing concern over future missteps.
On the flip side, a few fans decided to brush it off. “The Yankees hat is one of the most recognizable in the world. It’s more of a brand than just a team logo,” another wrote. Someone else pointed out that many in Philadelphia sport Yankees hats purely for style, not necessarily as die-hard fans.
This isn’t new territory for Philadelphia either. Allen Iverson was known for blending fashion and sports during his time with the 76ers, regardless of fan allegiances.
Interestingly, Hurts, who hails from Houston, actually roots for the Astros. He still supports the Phillies after relocating to Philadelphia. Despite a dip in performance and some locker room tension, notably from AJ Brown, the Eagles (with a 9-5 record) managed to solidify their position at the top of the NFC East with another victory on Sunday.
In terms of stats, Hurts completed 12 of 15 passes for 175 yards and three touchdowns before being replaced by Tanner McKee, who went 3-for-3 for 33 yards in the fourth quarter.
So, maybe Hurts shouldn’t face too much backlash for his hat choice following the game.
